Doha, 5 December 2022 (TDI): Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar congratulated Thailand on its National Day observed on 5 December 2022. The Ministry tweeted, “We Congratulate the Kingdom of Thailand on its National Day.”

In 1980, the Kingdom of Thailand and the State of Qatar established diplomatic ties. The two main areas of their collaboration are tourism and energy.

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, has housed a Qatari Embassy since 2004. Since 2002, Thailand has had a Consulate in Doha.

In the energy and tourist sectors, Qatar and Thailand have close and mutually beneficial ties. As of 2013, Yemen was replaced by Qatar as Thailand’s primary LNG supplier.

Doha is Thailand’s third-largest trading partner among the GCC nations. For Qataris, Thailand is the most popular health tourism destination. In 2014, about 30,000 Qataris traveled to Thailand.

Crude oil, LNG, and goods derived from petrochemicals, plastics, chemicals, and fertilizers are Doha’s principal exports. Thailand mostly sends automobiles, machinery, jewelry, food, and air conditioners to Doha.

Both states signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for sports cooperation and exchange in October 2019. Thailand would gain a lot from the partnership since it would increase its sporting potential.

In an effort to aid individuals impacted by flooding, Qatar Charity and the local charity Awn Al Muslim started a project in Thailand after severe flooding there in 2011.

Moreover, Yala Islamic University in Pattani, Thailand, receives significant funding from Qatar. Additionally, the government contributed to the $7 million cost of building the Sheikh Jasim Bin Muhammad Bin Thani Hospital in Pattani
