Santo Domingo, 26 July 2022 (TDI): The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani met the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, on Monday.

The meeting between the two leaders took place in Santo Domingo. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar on his current visit to the Dominican Republic met the President of the country to review bilateral relations between the two.

Moreover, during the visit, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani also met the Vice-President of the Dominican Republic, Raquel Pena Rodriguez.


The two dignitaries discussed ways to further develop the relations between the two friendly countries. Moreover, both sides especially discussed cooperation in the field of health and education.

Additionally, the two countries also had a fruitful discussion on strengthening relations in economic and investment fields.


Moreover, Al-Thani also conveyed the greetings of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to the President of the Dominican Republic.

For his part, the President of the Dominican Republic also conveyed his greetings to the Emir, wishing him health and happiness and Qatar’s further progress.

Qatar and the Dominican Republic

Qatar and the Dominican Republic enjoy warms relations. The Embassy of the Dominican Republic was opened in Doha in 2005. However, Qatar’s Embassy in Santo Domingo opened in 2007.

Additionally, the two countries have signed a number of agreements to strengthen their relations.

These include a memorandum of tourism cooperation, a memorandum of understanding in the field of air services, and collaboration between higher education, technology, and science.
