Qatar a key player in the Afghanistan, says Foreign Secretary UK

Doha, 02 September 2021 (TDI): The Foreign Secretary of the UK, Dominic Raab visited Doha today. He met the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman. They discussed the issues of security, humanitarian crisis, and terrorism in Afghanistan.

Mr. Raab said that Qatar’s influence in the region and its partnership with the British Government makes it a key player in the whole Afghan issue. He highlighted the importance of joint efforts in securing the Afghan borders and keeping the Kabul Airport operational for migrators. The officials expressed that Afghanistan would not be allowed to become a safe haven for terror groups. The UK and Qatar will work together to resolve the humanitarian crisis and ensure that the Taliban will adhere to their commitments. Additionally, the rights of women and minority groups will also be preserved.
