Islamabad, 14 January 2022 (TDI): Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan on Friday revealed the public version of the National Security Policy (NSP) in a ceremony. Last month in December, National Security Committee approved the policy. A day later the policy also got the approval of the Federal cabinet.

Salient Features of NSP

The policy is meant for the years 2022 -2026. The progress will be monitored by the end of every year. The original version of the document is 110 pages, meant only for the authorized personnel. The public version comprises 50 pages.

Mainly the security and safety of citizens are treated as the core of the policy. Special emphasis is laid on economic security. The policy is meant for directing the various sectors of the country in the years 2022 – 2026.

The document has sections covering defense, economy, internal security, foreign policy, etc.

Analysis of the status quo in multiple sectors is in the main document.

However, the implementation framework and indicators that were developed for keeping a check on the progress in the execution of the policy are not there in the public version.

National Security Advisor, Moeed Yusuf added in the ceremony that, the document is comprehensive. It has been prepared with assistance from federal, provincial governments and experts.

Imran Khan’s Address 

Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan mentioned that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s government has taken various initiatives before. It has been serving people with sincerity.

The state of Madinah is the government’s role model. Programs like universal health insurance, Ehsaas Programme, Single National Curriculum, etc are proof of hard and committed work.

Furthermore, he said that due to incentives given to the business community exports have increased. Talking about water security during the ceremony, Imran Khan mentioned, 10 new dams are under construction. He added that Government’s efforts on climate change have gotten global recognition.
