Tunis, 27 August 2022 (TDI): Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, and his delegation arrived in Tunisia, on Friday.
The Prime Minister was welcomed by Tunisia’s Minister of National Defense, Imed Memmich, and other government officials.

Agenda of Prime Minister’s visit
The Prime Minister of Somalia is in the Tunisian capital to attend the eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8). The conference is taking place on 27th-28th August 2022.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre will deliver an address at the conference. The address will focus on the political and security situation in Somalia. Moreover, he will present the proposals of his new government for the development, justice, and stability of the country.
The Prime Minister will also have meetings with the Foreign Minister of Japan, Yoshimasa Hayashi, and some African leaders on the sidelines of the summit. Further, they will discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding areas of cooperation.
About TICAD
Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) happens every three years either in Japan or an African country.
The eighth edition of the conference comes against the backdrop of China’s rising influence, cemented on the continent by its “Belt and Road” initiative.
Moreover, the event is co-organized by the Japanese government, the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser in Africa, the UN Development Program, and the World Bank.
In addition, high-level delegations from African countries, Japan, and organizations including the African Union, and World Trade Organization, are also participating in the conference.
The discussions on several regional and international issues will be held at the conference. They will also focus on Japanese investment in Africa for supporting start-ups and food security in the region.
