Islamabad, 2 February 2022 (TDI): Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan will visit China from 3-6 February 2022, at the special invitation of the Chinese leadership.
During his visit, he will attend the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games. The entourage of the Pakistani Prime Minister includes a high-level delegation having members of the Cabinet as well as senior government officials.
The Olympic Games aim to instill inclusivity, mutual understanding, and friendship among the peoples of the world as an international event. After hosting the Winter Games, Beijing will become the first-ever city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
The meticulous arrangements made by the Chinese government for holding the Winter Olympic Games in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic are laudable. The sports event will bring together athletes from 91 nations.
During his stay in China, Imran Khan will conduct bilateral meetings with the President of China, Xi Jinping, as well as the Premier of China, Li Keqiang.
The agenda of the meetings will be to review the bilateral relations between China and Pakistan, with a special emphasis on firmer trade and economic collaboration including CPEC. In addition, the two sides will also have a wide-ranging discussion on significant regional and global issues.
The visit of the Pakistani Prime Minister will mark the conclusion of celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
More than 140 events had been organized to commemorate the anniversary. The events depicted the resilience of the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership amid the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the unraveling global scenario.
It is expected that a number of MoUs and agreements will also be concluded during this visit. Prime Minister Imran Khan will also meet distinguished business leaders of China along with representatives of leading Chinese academia, think tanks, and the media.
Furthermore, whilst in Beijing, it is expected that the Prime Minister will also have various other bilateral interactions on the sidelines of the sports event.
