Tashkent/Moscow, 17 August 2022 (TDI): President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a telephonic conversation with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, on 16th August.

During the telephonic conversation, the current agenda of the strategic partnership and alliance was considered, and views on the regional interactions were also discussed.
The main attention was given to the practical implementation of agreements at the highest level. The promotion of regional and business levels cooperation projects in Uzbekistan and Russia was also discussed.
During the conversation, both the leaders talked about the prospect of further enhancing multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. Likewise, both the leaders also agreed on continuation of joint work to fill practical interaction with concrete, high-quality content.
Other discussions included the schedule of the upcoming bilateral and multilateral events including the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization). Both sides talked about the organization and holding the SCO Summit in September this year in Samarkand.
About the SCO, both leaders noted the high international standing and growing contribution of SCO in strengthening regional security and stability.
Recent Surge in Relations
In July 2022, Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, visited Uzbekistan while attending SCO Council of Ministers meeting in Tashkent.
During this visit, he also met with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and discussed regional security during their meeting.
In November 2021, President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, visited Russia and met Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
During the meeting, both Presidents discussed Russian-Uzbek Allied Strategic Partnership and signed a package of bilateral documents on the sidelines of the talks
In August 2021, the militaries of Tajikistan, Russia, and Uzbekistan conducted joint military drills near Tajikistan-Afghanistan.
The trilateral military drills had soldiers from all three countries including 300 armored vehicles, 25 combat helicopters, and 420 military hardware units.
