Tashkent, 24 August 2022 (TDI): The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a telephonic conversation with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on Tuesday.

During the telephonic conversation, both leaders discussed the prospect of further developing mutually beneficial cooperation. The two leaders also discussed strengthening strategic partnerships between the two countries.
Both leaders also hailed the notable progress in implementing the agreements reached during high-level meetings in June.
Both sides also noted the fruitful meeting of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission and the first gathering of cabinet ministers of the two countries at the beginning of August.
During the conversation, a point of discussion was mutual trade turnover that increased by 70% and the implementation of cooperation projects in agriculture, silk, textile, machine building, chemistry, and other key areas.
The two Presidents also noted that the Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan investment fund would also be launched soon, and the cultural, and humanitarian exchange is also increasing.
Both the heads of the state affirmed their support for further expansion of political interaction. For this purpose, they stressed the significance of holding a Forum of Regions and an exhibition of the industrial potential of the two countries in the current year.
The regional issues were also discussed during the conversation as both leaders exchanged views on the regional agenda. The schedule and agenda of the upcoming multilateral meetings of SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and the Organization of Turkic States were also part of the discussion.
In June 2022, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, also paid a state visit to Uzbekistan at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
