Singapore, 30 September 2022 (TDI): President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame met with Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong and President of Singapore, Halimah Yacob, today, during his work visit to Singapore.

The two Presidents reaffirmed the friendly and warm relations between Rwanda and Singapore. Both parties discussed ways to increase their bilateral cooperation in areas of shared interest. In addition, issues of common interest were also discussed.
The two dignitaries also discussed Prime Minister Lee’s successful visit to Rwanda in June 2022 in conjunction with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. President Kagame had successful discussions on bilateral collaboration, particularly education and capacity building with Prime Minister Lee. Moreover, they also talked about how closely both nations work together on the global forum.

Singapore-Rwanda diplomatic relations
Singapore and Rwanda established diplomatic ties on March 18, 2005, and have subsequently undertaken a number of economic agreements. A number of bilateral exchanges have recently taken place between Singapore and Rwanda.
Moreover, in January 2017, Paul Kagame and Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, the Foreign Minister of Singapore, met outside the Davos-Klosters World Economic Forum. At the Forum, the bilateral connections between the two nations were renewed as they also discussed relevant regional and global economic trends.
An agreement on aviation services and a bilateral investment treaty have been reached between Singapore and Rwanda in past. Additionally, both countries signed these agreements in October 2016. Furthermore, Singapore is also the biggest trading partner of Rwanda in the world. Singaporean businessmen invested approximately $150 million in Rwanda.
Moreover, the connection between the two countries is unique in many ways. Despite the fact that both nations are on different continents, they have a lot of similarities.
Being smaller nations surrounded by much bigger neighbours, both nations have consistently worked to promote positive diplomatic and economic integration in the area to promote stronger ties with the rest of the world.
