President Xi urges New Energy growth for Global Sustainability


Beijing, 2 March 2024 (TDI): Xi Jinping, the Chinese President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, urged for new energy growth for global sustainability.

He highlighted the imperative of advancing the high-quality development of new energy in China. A group study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee was held to highlight its significance.

Additionally, Xi recognized the critical role of energy security in national economic and social progress.  He emphasized the global consensus on developing clean energy to address climate change challenges.

Despite obstacles like demand pressure and supply constraints, Xi outlined new energy development as the key solution.

China boasts abundant resources in wind power and photovoltaic energy. Globally, it positions itself as a leader in new energy potential.

Xi underscored China’s achievement in building the world’s largest clean power supply system and its competitive edge in new energy vehicles and lithium batteries.

In addition to the developmental initiatives, Xi stressed the importance of balancing new and traditional energy sources. His central aim is to foster collaboration between government and market forces.

President Xi called for intensified research in core technologies and the efficient application of research outcomes to drive industrial growth and technological advancement.

Furthermore, he emphasized the expansion of new energy infrastructure, advocating for smart grid transformation, and the establishment of intelligent microgrids.

Accelerating the development of charging infrastructure is essential to supporting the rapid growth of new energy vehicles, Xi noted.

In addition, Xi emphasized the significance of international cooperation in new energy innovation and advocated for a fair and inclusive global energy governance system.

Xi concluded by underscoring the importance of enhancing the efficiency of investment in scientific and technological innovation.
