Beijing, 23 November 2021 (TDI): The President of China, Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the fourth World Media Summit (WMS). The Media Summit kick-started on Monday in Beijing.

Chinese News Agency, Xinhua was hosting the event. The theme of the Media summit was “Media Growth Strategy under the Impact of COVID-19.” The agenda of the Summit was to discuss Media Marketing, Media Development, and Media’s Role in Global Development, under the theme of this year.

President Xi, in his letter, said that presently the world is experiencing once in a century happening events; current global changes and the unprecedented pandemic. The international arena is experiencing profound and complex changes.

Media Growth Strategy under the Impact of COVID-19

Media plays a significant role in terms of societal grooming and responsibilities. Ergo, it should be in the quest of truth instead of being used as a propaganda machine. It should not become a tool; rather, it should strive to establish extensive consensus.

The Chinese President expressed his optimism about the participants of the summit. He believes that they will conduct in-depth discussions and build up consensus on the theme of the summit.

Consequently, such a harmonious relationship will nurture friendship between people and promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges. Media must be responsible enough to promote shared values of humanity as well as the development of a community with a shared destiny for humanity.

Fourth World Media Summit

The fourth World Media Summit had a digital format. International News agencies from different countries like the Associated Press, Yonhap News, the Agence France-Presse, Reuters News Agency, TASS Russian News Agency, Aljazeera Media Network, Saudi Press Agency, and Azerbaijan State News Agency participated in the Summit.

The first WMS was held in Beijing, second in Moscow, and the third in Doha in 2009, 2012, and 2016, respectively.
