President Xi Jinping arrives at Hong Kong on 25th anniversary

Hong Kong, 30 June 2022 (TDI): On Wednesday, President Xi Jinping arrived in Hong Kong. He traveled to Hong Kong by train to celebrate anniversary celebrations. President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan arrived in Hong Kong in the afternoon.

They were greeted by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam and her husband Lam Siu-por. President Xi will attend the ceremony to celebrate Hong Kong’s 25th anniversary of its return to the motherland.

He will also attend the inaugural ceremony of the 6th  term of the government of Honk Kong Special Administrative Region. Aside from that, he will also inspect the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Hundreds of Hong Kong members of the public and young people waved flags and flowers at the welcome ceremony. The ceremony featured a performance by the Hong Kong Police Band.

President’s Speech

In his speech, President Xi Jinping congratulated his Hong Kong compatriots. The President gave his best wishes on the marking of the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the Chinese motherland.

He said that he is caring for and concerned about the people of Hong Kong all along. Also in his speech, he said: “My heart and the central government’s heart are always with the Hong Kong compatriots.”

He added that Hong Kong had withstood a series of harsh tests over time. They have overcome a series of challenges and risks. Also, Hong Kong has emerged strong.

He said that facts have proven the vitality of “one country, two systems”. It has guaranteed Hong Kong long-term prosperity. It will ensure its stability and well-being.

President Xi expressed that “one country, two systems” will further benefit Hong Kong in the coming years.  Hong Kong has an even brighter future. It will make great contributions to making china a great state.

Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Leung Chun-Ying and the incoming sixth-term Chief Executive of the HKSAR John Lee were also present at the welcome ceremony.
