President Xi arrives in Paris for landmark state visit to France

Paris, 6th May 2024 (TDI): Xi Jinping, the President of the People’s Republic of China, arrived at Paris Orly Airport in France on Sunday. Upon his arrival President Xi delivered his written arrival statement.

During his remarks, he stated, “I am honored to begin my third official visit to France, as invited by President Emmanuel Macron. For the 50th and 55th anniversaries of our diplomatic relations with France, I visited France in spring 2014 and 2019”. 

Furthermore, he said that as we celebrate our 60th year of diplomatic relations, I feel familiar returning to your beautiful nation. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, I wish the French government and people well”.

During his arrival statement, he also stated that China and France, as significant representations of Eastern and Western cultures, share a lengthy history of reciprocal appreciation and admiration. 

Moreover, he highlighted that Decades ago, French Enlightenment intellectuals began to examine Chinese culture, and notable French intellectuals and writers like Voltaire, Diderot, Hugo, and Balzac have become well-known figures in China.

President Xi also expressed that over the past six decades, China’s bilateral relations have consistently kept pace with China’s relations with Western nations, serving as a prominent model for peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial collaboration among countries with diverse social systems.

Furthermore, he expressed his optimistic views regarding the broad exchange of views on his visit with President Macron. According to his statement, he will discuss a wide range of avenues to agree on various areas. 

He stated that he would discuss the current state of significant global and regional issues and how relations between China, Europe, and France are developing in light of the new situation.

President XI expressed his optimism and conveyed that hopefully our visit will enhance our enduring relationship, enhance political confidence, promote strategic agreement, and broaden our shared comprehension and cooperation in various sectors.

Lastly, he added that by embracing the light of history, I am confident that our two nations will light up the route ahead, leading to a more promising future for China-France relations. Additionally, we will make innovative contributions to world peace, stability, and prosperity.
