President of Pakistan receives credentials of Ambassadors

Islamabad, 29 August 2022 (TDI): During a ceremony, Ambassadors designate from Germany, Spain, Belgium, Libya, Kenya, and Ethiopia submitted their credentials to the President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi.

The Ambassadors of the Republic of Germany; Alfred Grannas, Ambassador of Spain; Jose Antonia de Ory Peral, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium; Charles Delogne, and the Ambassador of Libya, Moamer Z. O. Abdalmotlab called on the President separately.

Likewise, the Ambassador of Kenya, Mary Nyambura Kamau, and the Ambassador of Ethiopia, Jemal Beker Abdula also presented their credentials to the President of Pakistan.

Meeting with German Ambassador

President Alvi told the German Ambassador during the meeting that Germany was one of Pakistan’s greatest foreign direct investments.

He stated that German enterprises with competence in the wind, solar, and hydropower projects might benefit from new sets of incentives granted by Pakistan in these industries.

Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the President urged German businesses to participate in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

He stated that, given the enormous potential for commerce, trade, and investment between the two countries, the current level of bilateral trade needed to be significantly enhanced.

Moreover, in the face of disastrous floods in Pakistan, he emphasized the importance of bilateral collaboration between the two countries in mitigating the detrimental consequences of climate change and global warming.

Meeting with Spain’s Ambassador

While speaking with Spain’s Ambassador, the President stressed the importance of expanding bilateral relations in the economic, commerce, investment, and tourism sectors.

He praised Spain’s assistance to Pakistan through the GSP Plus Scheme and hoped that it would continue in the future. Similarly, he highlighted the importance of completing an agreement on defense cooperation between the two countries as soon as possible.

Meeting with Belgian Ambassador

Speaking with the Belgian Ambassador, President Alvi underlined the importance of significantly increasing bilateral trade volume from its current level of US$ 1.35 billion.

This could be achieved by speeding up exchanges of business delegations, participating in trade fairs, launching joint ventures, and forging meaningful cooperation in agriculture, port handling and dredging, and science and technology.

Meeting with Ambassador of Libya

In his conversation with Libya’s Ambassador, the President of Pakistan pointed out the importance of broadening the scope of trade ties and developing new paths of economic cooperation between the two countries.

He expressed optimism that the new Ambassador, appointed after an 11-year hiatus, will endeavor to strengthen the connection between the two fraternal nations.

Meeting with Kenyan Ambassador

Furthermore, while speaking to the Kenyan Ambassador, the President stated that Pakistan values its economic and trade connections with Kenya, which is Pakistan’s number one export destination and number two import destination on the African continent.

He expressed his pleasure with the current level of bilateral cooperation and coordination in trade, economics, defense, and border management.

Meeting with Ambassador of Ethiopia

During his meeting with the Ethiopian Ambassador, the President praised the Ethiopian leadership’s decision to establish a diplomatic mission in Islamabad.

He expressed hope that it would improve bilateral relations, increase mutual exchanges, and usher in a new era of friendship and cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

In the same vein, he also praised the two countries growing aviation cooperation, as well as the start of two weekly direct flights connecting Karachi with Africa via Addis Ababa.
