Nur-Sultan, 12 August 2022 (TDI): President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) President and Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid. UNGA President is currently on an official visit to Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstani President praised the UNGA President for visiting Kazakhstan and pointed to the significance of his visit. President Tokayev termed the visit as a further expansion of interaction between Kazakhstan and the UN.
The President of Kazakhstan also highlighted the exceptional role of the world organization (UN) in facilitating global peace, security, and sustainable development. He also praised the active work of Abdulla Shahid as the UNGA President.
During the meeting, Kazakhstani President also referred to the upcoming 77th session of the UN General Assembly. He termed the upcoming session as a unique opportunity for leaders to gather in a constructive atmosphere and offer the most sought-after solutions.
President Tokayev also informed the guests about the upcoming 7th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. The event is to be held in Kazakhistan and is due in September.

In his response, the UN General Assembly President noted that this was his first visit to Kazakhstan and Central Asia. He also highly appreciated the level of multifaceted partnership between Kazakhstan and the UN in the past 30 years.
UNGA President also referred to the large-scale ongoing reforms led by the Kazakh leader. He further mentioned the role of the recent referendum in introducing amendments to the Kazakhstan Constitution. He said the reforms underway will elevate human rights protection as well as civil society development to a new level.
UNGA President termed the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions an important platform and praised its level. He also expressed his confidence that the promotion of world peace by spiritual leaders will be a key message of the upcoming event.
