New York, 19 September 2023 (TDI): The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held meetings with the American Multinational Companies (MNCs), including GE Healthcare and Amazon Corporation on September 19.
The meetings were held at the sideline of the 78th Session of UNGA in New York. In the meetings agreements were signed between Kazakhstan and the MNCs to vitalize their cooperation.
Meeting with the President of GE Healthcare
During the meeting with the President of GE Healthcare for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, Rob Walton informed the Kazakh President about GE Healthcare’s intention to create a Centralized National Digital Archive of Clinical Images of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
He said that this will simplify the management of patient data and, as a result, reduce the cost of services.
Moreover, he informed the Kazakh President about GE Healthcare’s plans to localize the production of ultrasound machines with subsequent production of CT scanners, angiographs, and mammographs in Kazakhstan.
In correspondence, the Kazakh President emphasized that this initiative fully meets the goal of increasing the share of domestic production of medicines and medical equipment to 50% by 2025.
The President of GE Healthcare highlighted that the company also implements educational programs to improve the qualifications of healthcare personnel.
In this regard, he proposed the opening of the GE Healthcare Academy at Astana Medical University and delineated that the educational institution will be able to start full-fledged operations in October this year.
The President of Kazakhstan during the meeting praised the strategic partnership with GE on important healthcare projects in Kazakhstan.
Also, as a result of the meeting, a Framework Agreement on the main terms of the GE Healthcare investment project between the Government of Kazakhstan and GE Healthcare was signed.
Meeting with the Vice President of Amazon Corporation
The President of Kazakhstan also held a meeting with the Vice President of Amazon Corporation, Susan Pointer, where both sides discussed the entrepreneurial cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides during the meeting, discussed opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation in the development of cloud technologies and the construction of data centers.

The Kazakh President also highlighted Kazakhstan’s achievements in the field of e-government, emphasizing that further improvement of the digital sphere in Kazakhstan will require best in class infrastructure solutions.
During the negotiations, the representatives of Amazon Corporation expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Kazakhstan with the prospect of covering the entire Central Asian region.
Moreover, an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan (“NIT” JSC) and Amazon Web Services to acquire the Outpost cloud solution and launch a pilot project to integrate it with the Qaz Tech platform.
As a result of this initiative, an opportunity will be laid for the global players to locate data centers in Kazakhstan and will also realize the country’s potential as a regional IT hub.
