New York, 20 September 2022 (TDI): The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi A. Adesina has joined other world leaders at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly for the 77th UNGA Session.
While there, he will discuss global issues such as the impact of climate change, Russia’s war in Ukraine, and recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this is the first time the UN General Assembly has been held in person in two years.
The subject of this year’s assembly, A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interconnected challenges, underlines the urgent and unprecedented need for global cooperation to address these difficulties.
The African Development Bank delegation, led by Dr. Adesina, will attend a number of high-level meetings, including the Global Food Security Summit; and a high-level meeting on the Sahel jointly organized by the UN and the African Union.
Aside from that, he will also partake in a presidential dialogue group on nutrition; a meeting of the Global Crisis Response Group on food, energy, and finance; and the inaugural meeting of the Global Leadership Council for the Global Energy Alliance.
Moreover, President Adesina will meet with World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General; Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Rockefeller Foundation’s President; Raj Shah, and other development partners.
He will also attend the Nigeria International Economic Partnership Forum, a business investment conference in Nigeria. Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) will also attend the event.
Likewise, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, Bill Gates, co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, Facebook’s parent company, and Satya Nadella, Chairman & CEO of Microsoft Corp. are expected to attend.
