Geneva, 15 September 2021 (TDI): Abdulla Shahid of Maldives took oath as the President of the 76th UN General Assembly (UNGA).
Abdulla Shahid is the Foreign Minister of Maldives. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, President of the Maldives, congratulated Abdullah Shahid for the position.
The President of Maldives indicated this recognition of Maldives as a turning point for the Foreign Policy of Maldives.
Secretary-General of UN Antonio Guterres also extended his congratulations to the new sworn President of the 76th session of UNGA.
On the first day as President of the 76th UN General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid expressed his gratitude to the President of Maldives for the opportunity and trust. Abdulla Shahid assured his presidency as a hope and dream even in peculiar times.
Secretary-General of UN Antonio Guterres expressed his desire to work closely with the President of UNGA. Both the General Secretary of the UN and the President of 76th UNGA promised to live up to the potential of the United Nations Charter.
