President Biden’s Statement on Mandela Day 2021

Washington: July 18, 2021 – (TDI): In a statement issued by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. the exceptional leadership of Nelson Mandela was appreciated. He noted the international celebration of Nelson Mandela Day for the past 12 years, every July 18, to remember, to learn from, and to pay tribute to the legacy of Nelson Mandela, a leader of all races. He mentioned how Mandela overthrew apartheid, and became a democratic leader of South Africa, promoting human rights for all humans. President Biden expressed his intent to honor and commemorate this extraordinary legacy, with people all around the world. He vowed to dismantle systematic racism and to fight for equity and equality to prevail. Mandela’s struggle for justice, democracy, and peace narrowed the dividing gaps among people, he shared. He further added that he started paving a pathway of dialogue, partnership, and respect for everyone, that led South Africa to flourish, but unfortunately, there is still a long way ahead. He sympathized with those affected by violence in South Africa, recently. In the end, he expressed his vision of a better world and South Africa, under the legacy of Nelson Mandela.
