Washington, 2 March 2024 (TDI): US President Joe Biden hosted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the White House on 1 March 2024 to discuss the G7 Presidency, development, and bilateral relations between the United States and Italy.
In this meeting, Security Advisor to President of the United States Jake Sullivan, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and other ministers participated.
According to reports, “President Biden met with Italian Prime Minister Meloni today to discuss shared priorities. Including support for Ukraine, their support of Israel’s right to self-defense consistent with international law, and the need to increase the deliveries of humanitarian assistance to Gaza”.
Prime Minister Meloni said, “Another meeting to reinforce our friendship and cooperation, boosted by $20 million of Italian Americans”.
Detailed discussion on bilateral diplomacy
Both counterparts discussed the importance of the Italian G7 Presidency for 2024. They had a detailed discussion on bilateral diplomacy and on July’s Joint Declaration.
Both leaders discussed the Russian aggression in Ukraine, condemned that action, and committed to advocating for Ukraine.
Moreover, highlighted, “Sustainable development, food, and energy security, migration as well as cooperation on artificial intelligence and continued joint efforts to support cooperation on Global Infrastructure and Investment”.

US President and Italy’s Prime Minister talked about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, to prevent an escalation. Both ensured the provision of humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
Additionally, they talked about maintaining security and resilience in the Red Sea and work on the transatlantic partnership in the Indo-Pacific region.
Further, two sides highlighted the “Mattie Plan for Africa” to exchange cooperation with the African continent and collaborate in shared areas. The Italian Prime Minister Meloni discussed an initiative for an international coalition against human traffickers.
President Biden and Prime Minister Meloni spoke about, “the upcoming G7 Summit held in Puglia and NATO’s Summit in Washington. Both emphasized transatlantic cooperation and addressing world challenges”.
Lastly, both discussed economic diplomacy between Italy and the United States. According to reports, the US is the highest investor who agrees to invest around $102 billion in trade between the US and Italy.
