Islamabad, 15 March 2022 (TDI): President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi held a telephonic dialogue with the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as well as President-elect, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

President Alvi congratulated Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on successful Presidential elections in Turkmenistan. The elections were held on 12 March 2022 and Serdar Berdimuhamedov was elected as the next President.

President of Pakistan stated that the remarkable victory mirrored the trust of the people of Turkmenistan in him as well as the vision of the incumbent leadership. He reminisced about his meeting with his Turkmen counterpart.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 15th ECO summit in November 2021. President Alvi highlighted the need to take distinct steps for greater connectivity, tourism along with people-to-people contacts.

Furthermore, the President also suggested that Turkmenistan should avail Gawadar and Karachi seaports for its trade connectivity with the Middle East and the rest of the world.

In addition, President Alvi lauded the participation of Turkmenistan in the 17th Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad last year along with congratulating President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, for the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

President Alvi, whilst talking to the President-elect, Serdar Berdimuhamedov,  congratulated him on his election as the President of Turkmenistan and conveyed the hope that he would persist to take bilateral relations to further heights.

Likewise, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for mega projects, especially the TAPI gas pipeline. The President also thanked Turkmenistan for its participation in the upcoming 40th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers that will be held in Islamabad on 22-23 March 2022.
