Beijing, 13 March 2023 (TDI): At the conclusion of the National People’s Congress’ annual meeting on March 11, 2023, Premier Li Keqiang, China’s second-ranking official, addressed the media (NPC).

Li’s speech centred on the goals and difficulties of China’s new leadership, the country’s economic prospects, the encouragement of high-quality growth, and the ongoing deepening of reforms and opening up.

In addition, Li discussed topics like food security, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, and China-US relations.

The focus of the government on achieving the ambitions of the Chinese people for a better life was the speech’s overriding theme, according to Premier Li.

He reaffirmed China’s commitment to assisting private businesses in accordance with market- and law-based principles with regard to the private sector. He emphasised that private businesses will benefit from a better environment and more room for growth.

Another important subject of Premier Li’s address was employment. He declared that China would keep up its employment-first approach and strengthen government assistance for job growth.

Premier Li highlighted that Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits are part of the same family when referring to Taiwan. He claimed that coordinated efforts are necessary for the swift return of regular communications across the Straits.

Premier Li emphasised that the government will promote rural rehabilitation with a focus on economic, ecological, social, and cultural aspects in relation to rural vitalization and food security. Also, he reaffirmed that China’s food security is fully secured.

Premier Li concluded by discussing China-US relations and emphasising that the two nations’ accord needed to be turned into policies and actions. He stressed the necessity and ability of US and Chinese cooperation.
