Islamabad, 21 February 2023 (TDI): The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has sent aid to the earthquake-affected people of Syria. The relief consignment contained medical, surgical, and first aid equipment.

The aid was handed over on the instructions of the Chairman of PRCS, Sardar Shahid Ahmad Laghari by Secretary General of PRCS, Muhammad Abaidullah Khan to the Ambassador of Syria, Dr. Rameez-Alraee.

In this vein, a ceremony was held on Tuesday at PRCS National Headquarters. In his message on the occasion, PRCS Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmad Laghari stated that the Red Crescent stood by Turkey and Syria during this difficult time.

He stated that PRCS has provided assistance to both earthquake-affected countries and the supply of medical and surgical equipment is a practical response to the Syrian Ambassador’s request.

According to Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, PRCS, as part of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, will send teams of paramedics, health and WASH experts to help earthquake victims and has shared the plan with the appropriate authorities.

He stated that PRCS-trained personnel and volunteers would travel to Syria and Turkey to assist with relief, recovery, and reconstruction efforts.

“PRCS has launched a nationwide appeal to assist the earthquake victims of the two brotherly countries, & any funds & donations collected through provincial branches will be given to Turkish Red Crescent & Syrian Arab Red Crescent to assist the EQ victims,” he added.

On his part, Syrian Ambassador Dr. Rameez- Alraee praised PRCS’s initiative and stated that medical and surgical equipment was desperately needed to assist earthquake victims in Syria.

He thanked PRCS for its assistance in alleviating the suffering of the affected families. He also mentioned all possible ways to strengthen these ties.

It is worth noting that PRCS has previously donated $50,000 to Turkey earthquake victims and $25,000 to Syrian earthquake victims.
