Portugal Ambassador to Pakistan Frederico Silva Tours Karachi, Key Sites

Islamabad (TDI): Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, Frederico Silva, will begin a six-day official visit to Karachi and other parts of Sindh starting today.

The visit will include a series of high-level meetings, cultural events, economic discussions, and field visits aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations between Portugal and Pakistan, The Embassy of Portugal said in a statement.

During his time in Karachi, Ambassador Silva is scheduled to meet with prominent political, religious, cultural, and social figures, including the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Archbishop of Karachi, representatives of the Karachi Goan community, and other key cultural and community leaders.

His itinerary also features visits to the Quaid-e-Azam Mausoleum, notable historic sites, the World Culture Festival 2025 at the Karachi Arts Council, the Adab Literary Festival, as well as interactions with members of the local business community.

The program also includes a series of visits organized by Aga Khan Development Network in Karachi and District Thatta to engage with communities and appreciate the development initiatives led by AKDN agencies.

He will visit education and health institutions, infrastructure projects, and interact with students, faculty, and leadership at AKES, Aga Khan University, and AKU-IED.

The Ambassador’s visit comes at a time when both countries are exploring new avenues of cooperation in trade, culture, education, and sustainable development. Officials expect his interactions with the business community and development organizations to open doors for joint initiatives that could benefit local communities and strengthen economic ties between Portugal and Pakistan.

Cultural diplomacy is also a major focus of this trip. By attending literary festivals, arts events, and heritage sites, Ambassador Silva aims to deepen mutual understanding and appreciation of each country’s rich cultural heritage. These engagements are expected to create opportunities for cultural exchange programs, collaboration in the arts, and promotion of tourism.
