PM Trudeau issued statement on the bicentennial of Peru’s independence

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau issued a statement on the bicentennial of Independence of Peru. He stated that Canada joins hands with the worldwide Peruvian communities in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Peru’s independence.

The bilateral relations between both nations are established on the basis of shared values and deeply rooted people-to-people ties. Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, enhance the bilateral trade and commercial ties and increase job opportunities in both nations. Such strong bilateral ties have made Peru, Canada one of the most significant trading partners.

He noted the close bilateral collaboration to promote sustainable economic development, gender equality, human rights, and democracy. Both nations are members of the United Nations, the Organization of American States, and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. He conveyed Canada’s support to eradicate poverty and inequality, promote business competition and reduce vulnerability to climate change in Peru via a development assistance program. Prime Minister Trudeau is determined to promote bilateral partnership between both nations to work on their mutual priorities and interests such as; fulfilling the needs of Venezuelan refugees and migrants, promoting the rights of Indigenous people, language, culture, and fighting the pandemic.

At the end of his statement, he urged all the Canadians to celebrate the unifying ties between Canada and Peru and appreciating the significant contributions made by Peruvians for Canada. He extended warm wishes for the people celebrating the 200th Peruvian Independence Day, worldwide.
