Hanchuan (TDI): The two-day commemoration of the International Day of Peace 2026 came to a close on Tuesday with a closing ceremony at the Grand Conference Room of the Huanglong Lake International Conference Center in Hanchuan.
The closing ceremony brought to an end a program that had drawn delegates, diplomats, and civil society leaders from around 60 countries to Wuhan and Hanchuan.
The Closing Ceremony was moderated by Wang Ke, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament.
Addresses were delivered by Hu Jiuming – Secretary of the CPC Xiaogan Municipal Committee, Sorajak Kasemsuvan – former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Chen Ping – Vice Governor of the Hubei Provincial People’s Government, and Lu Kang – Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, who had also moderated the commemoration’s opening ceremony in Wuhan a day earlier.
The closing remarks capped a two-day program held under the overarching theme Meeting Challenges Together for a Peaceful World.
The commemoration opened on Monday in Wuhan with a ceremony at the Yangtze River Hall of the East Lake International Conference Center, featuring a keynote by Peng Qinghua and addresses by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, among other senior Chinese and international figures.
This was followed by a plenary session on peace, security and high-quality development, and a visit by delegates to the Hubei Provincial Museum.
On Tuesday, proceedings shifted to Hanchuan, opening with the thematic forum Pooling Strength to Build a Path to Peace, which included addresses from Chinese officials and international guests including Moktar Khalifa of Mauritania’s National Assembly, Adrianna Sniadowska of the Polish Center for International Relations, and Kazi Sazzad Zahir of Bangladesh’s Communist Party.

This was followed by the screening of an AI-produced film, The Path of Peace, and an open roundtable dialogue, Cooperation and Development: Jointly Building the Cornerstone of Peace, moderated by Liu Huici of the China NGO Network for International Exchanges.
The roundtable brought together voices from medicine, cultural outreach, conservation and regional development, including speakers from Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Germany.
A Youth Sharing Session, The Path of Peace in My Eyes, gave young delegates from around the world the floor to reflect on peacebuilding before the program moved to its formal close.
Across both days, speakers emphasized dialogue, mutual respect, regional cooperation and sustainable development as pillars for addressing contemporary threats to peace and security.
Chinese officials underscored the country’s commitment to a peaceful foreign policy, while international participants highlighted the value of platforms like the Wuhan-Hanchuan commemoration in building consensus across borders.
With the closing ceremony, the Commemoration of the International Day of Peace 2026 formally concluded, marking the end of a program that contributed to global efforts toward dialogue-driven, cooperative approaches to peace and security.
