Ramallah, 11 June 2024 (TDI): The Palestinian Presidency has welcomed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution on the Gaza ceasefire on 11th June 2024. The resolution has demanded an immediate and total cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
Additionally, the resolution calls for the full evacuation of Israeli occupation soldiers from the Gaza Strip. It also asked that those Palestinians who have been displaced be allowed to return to their homes and neighborhoods across Gaza.
Along with this, the Palestinian Presidency has applauded the UN resolution that demands that humanitarian aid be distributed safely, and effectively throughout Gaza. Furthermore, it has also rejected any changes to both geography and population in Palestinian territory.
In addition, according to the resolution, a two-state solution must be implemented under the Palestinian Authority, which shall be headed by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
Furthermore, the Palestinian Presidency has viewed the ratification of this resolution as a positive step. It has in doing so, urged all parties to carry out their obligations toward ending the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.
In line with international law and pertinent UN resolutions, the Security Council reaffirmed its strong commitment to the idea of a two-state solution. The President stressed that significant efforts must be taken to actively implement the political solution.
Resultantly, the occupation will stop and an independent Palestinian state will be established in compliance with international law.
UNSC Resolution on Gaza Ceasefire
To put a stop to Israel’s eight-month assault on Gaza, the United States has approved a ceasefire proposal. Following the UNSC endorsement, the resolution was voted 14-0, with Russian abstention on Monday.
Moreover, the three-phase ceasefire proposal was unveiled last month. It stipulates an initial six-week ceasefire and a swap of some Israeli captives held in Gaza for Palestinian inmates detained in Israeli jails.

A permanent truce and the release of the remaining prisoners would characterize the second phase. However, the third stage would see efforts to rebuild the severely damaged Gaza Strip.
