Des Plaines, 24 August 2022 (TDI): The Consul General of Pakistan in Chicago, Tariq Karim attended the literary event, Nuskhah e Dard e Ishq. The event was arranged by Urdu Institute at Sabeel center in Des Plaines.

Remarks by Consul General

Pakistan’s Consul General in Chicago, Tariq Karim, while speaking at the event, highlighted the role of scholars in promoting harmony.

Moreover, he emphasized how scholars have helped in increasing understanding between the world’s civilizations. He also said that interfaith harmony plays an important role in promoting global peace and other common objectives for the welfare of humanity.

Overview of the Event

The program featured Marcia Hermansen, an American scholar of Islam who is a professor and director of Islamic World Studies at Loyola University Chicago as well.

The event was arranged to honor the contributions of Marcia Hermansen to Islamic and Sufi traditions. During the first session of the event, Director Marcia spoke on her thoughts and expertise as an author of many publications on Islamic Studies and Sufism.

Further, she also spoke about many other issues at the event. During the second session, artists like Farrukh Khawaja, Neeta Shahpeti, Mustafa Hashmi, and Ahmed Khan recited Sufi Kalams.

The event was attended by a large number of people from different walks of life. Moreover, many people from the Pakistani community living in America also attended the event.

Pakistan and US Relations

Pakistan and the US have enjoyed years of good bilateral relations. The Us has always sided with Pakistan during its challenging times. During the COIVD-19 pandemic, the US supported Pakistan with $77 million worth of vaccines.

Recently, USAID also donated $100 000 to help Pakistan fight the impacts of ongoing floods and bring relief to the flood victims. Both countries continue to engage in strengthening cooperation with each other in different domains.

Recently, Pakistan also marked 75 years of its diplomatic ties with the US. With this, governments of both nations vowed to strengthen their ties in the future.
