Pakistan's Ambassador to US highlighted the importance of solving Kashmir issue

Washington DC, 6 August 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States, Masood Khan, highlighted the Kashmir issue on Friday.

Pakistan observed Youm-e-Istehsal on 5 August to show solidarity with the Kashmiri people. The day was also observed to bring the international countries’ attention to the atrocities committed in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The day marked the third year of illegal and unconstitutional occupation of Indian forces on the land of Jammu and Kashmir. Many Pakistanis and Kashmiris living around the globe observed the day.

Webinar on Youm-e-Istehsal:

Pakistan’s embassy in the US organized a webinar on “Jammu and Kashmir need international attention”. The webinar was attended by a number of international diplomats and civil society leaders.

 

During the webinar, the atrocities being committed by Indian forces on the land of Jammu and Kashmir were highlighted. The participants also affirmed that they stood with the people of Kashmiri in preserving their rights to freedom and right to self-determination.

In the webinar, Masood Khan emphasized that it has been 3 years since India unilaterally annexed the land. He said that India used illegal and unconstitutional means to take over the land. Further, Ambassador explained the way India has been oppressing and killing the people of Kashmir.

Furthermore, the Ambassador called on the United Nations to take immediate measures. He said that the Kashmir dispute is already affecting the security issues in South Asia and it could further challenge international security at all levels.


The Former Prime Minister of Norway Kjell Magne Bondevik also attended the webinar. He called for a resolution to be passed on the Kashmir issue. Moreover, he emphasized that there was a need to initiate new political efforts on the Kashmir issue. He said that the implementation of new policies for ceasefire should be made for Kashmir’s peace.

Special Event on Youm-e-Istehsal:

Pakistan’s embassy in the US also organized a special event on the day. It was attended by the Pakistani and Kashmiri communities living in Washington DC.

The speakers highlighted the atrocities and brutalities being committed by Indian forces in the occupied land of Jammu and Kashmir. They also called for organizations to take immediate action to help the Kashmiris.

Speaking at the event, Masood Khan called upon the United Nations and the P5 countries to take cognizance of the situation in Jammu & Kashmir. The Ambassador made an appeal to the United Nations to appoint a special envoy on Kashmir.

He said that Jammu and Kashmir were forcefully occupied three years ago.

The Ambassador stressed on retraction of all the steps taken by the Indian government on 05 August 2019. Furthermore, he called for a reversal of measures to change the state’s demographic composition by non-natives outsiders.

Additionally, he emphasized that helping Kashmiris was important to stop human rights violations and for international peace and security.

Secretary General, World Kashmir Awareness Forum Ghulam Nabi also recalled the warning by Gregory Stanton about the possible genocide threat in Jammu & Kashmir. He emphasized on implementation of an immediate resolution to solve the issue under the UN Charter.

Ambassador Tauqeer Hussain also emphasized the need for greater efforts to sensitize the international community about the Kashmir issue. He appreciated the efforts made by the Embassy to create awareness about Kashmir among policymakers and the civil society of the United States.

Masood Khan’s interview with Newsweek:

Pakistan’s envoy to the United States also expressed his views on the Kashmir issue in an interview with Newsweek. Masood Khan emphasized that the Kashmir issue has been continuously ignored.

He warned that like the Russia Ukraine crisis and China-Taiwan, the disputed land of Kashmir could also result in a bigger crisis. Therefore, he called for countries and organizations to do their utmost in resolving the Kashmir issue.
