The Ambassador of Pakistan also presented a special memento to the Undersecretary that marked 70 years of cooperative and friendly relations between Pakistan and Argentina since the establishment of bilateral relations in 1951.

Argentina and Pakistan established formal diplomatic relations in 1951. Both countries have a long history of trade, cultural contact, and international cooperation.

In 2002, the countries upgraded their trade relations to “Most Favorable Nation”. Economic and trade relations are well-established between the two. The Pakistani Embassy in Argentina is also accredited to Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Paraguay, as well as Uruguay.

Earlier this year on 17 Feb 2022, the Argentine Ambassador to Pakistan, Leopoldo Franco Sahors called on the Punjab Minister for Livestock, Sardar Hasnain Bahadur in Lahore and expressed the need and willingness to intensify cooperation in the areas of agriculture along with livestock management.

In addition, both countries have cooperated in the United Nations (UN), especially on the matter of UNSC reform. They are part of the “Uniting for Consensus” group at the UN that calls for the expansion of non-permanent seats at the UN.

Uniting for the Consensus group also discourages adding more permanent members to the UNSC. Both Pakistan and Argentina have achieved unanimity of views on several international issues.
