Kabul, 14 October 2021 (TDI): Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kabul, Mansoor Ahmad Khan held a meeting with the Minister for Refugees Return of Afghanistan, Haji Khalil Ur Rehman Haqqani.

Both parties held talks on the issues that Afghanistan faces today regarding Afghan Refugees. They discussed the conditions of refugees residing in Pakistan and their dignified return to Afghanistan.

Pakistan now has over 1.4 million registered Afghan refugees. Many of whom arrived in the country 40 years ago, following the Soviet invasion in 1979. After the US invasion in 2001, hundreds of thousands more joined them. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) estimated that there were three million Afghan refugees in Pakistan by 2002. Many returned to Afghanistan, and the number of US troops dwindled until this year when the withdrawal began.
