Ontario, 4 September 2021 (TDI): Pakistanis in Canada mourned the death of Syed Ali Geelani.
Pakistani Consul General Abdul Hameed along with several other Pakistanis attended the Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janaza of the Kashmiri leader in Canada.
Also, on Friday 3 September 2021, a Quran Khawani was conducted in the Pakistan Consulate General in Toronto, where attendees prayed for the soul of Syed Ali Geelani, a strong, fearless, and dynamic Kashmiri leader.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani died in Srinagar on Wednesday at the age of 92. Geelani, a hardline separatist, died at his Srinagar house after a prolonged illness. With a large following across the valley, Geelani was the most popular Kashmiri separatist leader. He was the chairman of the Hairline Hurriyat conference group till last year. Geelani was a proponent of merging Kashmir with Pakistan and was imprisoned several times.
He has been mostly under house arrest in his Srinagar home since 2010.
