Foreign Minister Malaysia-Turkey discuss mutual cooperation

Kuala Lumpur, 4 September 2021 (TDI): Minister of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, Saifuddin Abdullah had a telephone discussion with his Turkish Counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on Thursday. The two ministers talked about various bilateral issues such as education, cyber security, and post COVID-19 cooperation. 

Malaysia and Turkey are active members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC). The two sides enjoy a broad-based and close partnership since its diplomatic relations in 1964. Their bilateral relations achieved political, economic, and cultural ties, sharing a common perspective on a broad range of diplomatic regional, and global issues.

300 Malaysian citizens currently reside in Turkey. On the other hand, 600 Turkish citizens reside in Malaysia. 199 Malaysian students have been awarded higher education scholarships in Turkish universities. Turkey has provided 25 scholarships to Malaysian students in the 2018-2019 academic year which is a testament to strong ties.
