Banjul, 11 December 2021 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, felicitates President Adama Barrow on his impressive victory in the Gambian presidential elections.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan, congratulated President Adama Barrow on his landslide victory. After extending best wishes to President Barrow, Imran Khan hopes to continue and deepen productive engagement with Gambia under the administration of President Adama Barrow.

The presidential elections were held on 4th December 2021. President Adama Barrow, who is the flag bearer of the National People’s Party, won the 2021 Gambia presidential election with 52.2% votes defeating five other candidates.
Before the elections, 21 persons were nominated for the office of the President. Out of twenty-one nominated candidates, six candidates were approved by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to run for the office of the President.
The approved candidates were Adama Barrow (National People’s Party), Ousainou Darboe (United Democratic Party), Essa M. Faal (Independent), Mama Kandeh (Gambia Democratic Congress), Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh (National Union Party), and Halifa Sallah People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism.
A total of 962,157 voters were registered on the electoral lists. These voters included 416,839 men, and 545,318 women. 1,554 polling stations were established throughout the country. Voters were allowed to cast votes from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on 4 December 2021.
On 5th December 2021, President Barrow was declared the winner by the Independent Electoral Commission.
Adama Barrow from the National People’s Party, won with a total of 457,519 votes. Following him was Ousainou Darboe from United Democratic Party. He had a total vote of 238,253. Mama Kandeh Gambia from the Democratic Congress secured 105,902 votes. Halifa Sallah from the People Democratic for independence and socialism secured 32,425 votes.
Essa M. Faal, who was Independent and not affiliated with any political party, secured 17,206 votes. Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh from the National Union Party secured 8,252 votes.
Speaking on Gambia’s 2021 presidential election and President Barrow’s victory, Imran Khan said, “People of brotherly Gambia have again reposed their trust in his able leadership. I look forward to continuing the productive engagement between Pakistan and Gambia”.
