Pakistani High Commissioner called on newly appointed Sri Lankan FM

Colombo, 23 August 2021 (TDI): Pakistani High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Saad Khattak paid a courteous call to the newly appointed  Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka G.L. Peris at the Foreign Ministry office in Colombo.

Saad Khattak congratulated the Foreign Minister and conveyed good wishes. During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the situation in Afghanistan. Saad Khattak briefed G.L. Peris about the recent developments in Afghanistan. He told the Foreign Minister that the Taliban have assured that they will establish an inclusive government in Afghanistan and protect women and children’s rights in the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. On his part, Minister informed the Pakistani High Commissioner about the evacuation plan of the Sri Lankan government. He also requested assistance for evacuation from the Pakistani government to which the High Commissioner promised to render full support on behalf of the Government of Pakistan.

Also, both parties stressed enhancing bilateral ties in trade and investments. The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister lauded Pakistan’s initiative of providing scholarships to Sri Lankan students and emphasized that such cooperation should be further reinforced in defense and security.
