Islamabad, 1 July 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari virtually addressed the members of the US Congress. He invited the Chairperson of the Congressional Pakistan caucus Sheila Jackson Lee to visit Pakistan to celebrate 75 years of bilateral ties between the two countries.

Foreign Minister thanked the members of the US Congress for their support towards Pakistan. He also highlighted that the Pakistani diaspora in the United States plays an important role in strengthening the ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, he appreciated the recent momentum in bilateral relations on climate change, energy, health, security, and trade.


Moreover, he expressed his desire to further deepen the bilateral ties through economic cooperation. There is a need for more people-to-people, business-to-business and parliamentary engagement between the two states.

The Virtual meetings

The video link between Foreign Minister and US Congress members was also joined by Pakistan’s envoy to the US; Masood Khan, Democrat leaders Tahir Javed, Asif Riaz Qadir, and others.

US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson assured that she will write a letter to IMF for improving the economic conditions of Pakistan.

Prior to this meeting, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister also addressed Chairman of the Committee Congressman Adam Smith in a virtual meeting on 19 May.

He stressed that Pakistan would remain proactive in exploring opportunities and overtures for steering peace, security, and stability in the region.

Significantly, he highlighted the Indian steps to redraw the constituencies in Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He briefed about the illegal delimitation process to change the Muslim majority into a minority in the occupied region.

Both officials held a detailed discussion on strengthening bilateral defense ties and the need for sustained engagement in this regard.

Furthermore, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto emphasized strengthening business-to-business and commercial ties. He assured that Pakistan will allow the American entrepreneurs the opportunity to benefit from the immense potential offered by Pakistan’s economic geography.
