Vienna, 17 October 2022 (TDI): Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher represented Pakistan at an event held on the sidelines of the ongoing 11th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP) to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC).
Ambassador Khokher is Pakistan’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna.
The event was co-organized by the Permanent Mission of Pakistan and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to promote the role and collaboration of women in the criminal justice system.
While addressing the participants, he stated that effective representation of women in legal and law enforcement institutions has a positive impact on the delivery of justice, ensuring the rule of law, and protecting the rights of all citizens, particularly women.
Ambassador Khokher underscored that Pakistan recognizes the positive effects of the adequate participation of women in legal and law enforcement institutions on the administration of justice.

Along these lines, he reiterated that women’s engagement in law enforcement has improved police services, increased operational performance, & increased public trust, particularly among other women who found these institutions more approachable.
Likewise, female criminal justice practitioners from Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe attended the gathering.
SSP Shahla Qureshi of Pakistan also took part in the panel discussion. She described her experience in creating technological capacities to combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
11th Conference of Parties to the UNTOC
The 11th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime will be held in Vienna from October 17 to 21, 2022.
United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime
The United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime is a multinational convention sponsored by the United Nations that was signed in 2000.
On November 15, 2000, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution approving the Convention. UNTOC is often known as the Palermo Convention.
