Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi assured Pakistan's support to Azerbaijan against Armenia during the National Assembly session.

Islamabad, 12 November 2021 (TDI): “I want to reassure you that the people of Pakistan stand with you and the people of Azerbaijan,” Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said as he welcomed an Azerbaijani delegation to the Pakistan’s National Assembly’s visitors’ gallery.

The Minister reassured Azerbaijan of Pakistan’s full support in the face of Armenian aggression, following which Azeri soldiers reclaimed Azerbaijan’s areas that had been under illegal possession for nearly three decades last year.

As the National Assembly debate began, Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri drew the lawmakers’ attention to the presence in the visitors’ gallery of a delegation consisting of members of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly and the Ambassador to Pakistan. The delegation was greeted warmly by the House, which thumped the desk.

“Azerbaijan is the one country that has always stood by Pakistan in international fora, and I am delighted to convey that Pakistan stood by you in your struggle and celebrated your victory day today,” Foreign Minister Qureshi added.

He further told the House that the people of Azerbaijan completely accepted Pakistan’s support in every way, adding that “when they reclaimed their occupied lands from Armenia, one saw Pakistani flags flown alongside Azerbaijani and Turkish flags.”

“Azerbaijan is one of the countries that is part of the contact group on Kashmir, and its foreign minister has always attended in the contact group meetings,” the minister said, adding that “Azerbaijan is one of the countries that has always stood with Pakistan on international matters.” I appreciate your assistance to Pakistan.”

Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov recently spoke at a press conference in Islamabad, thanking Pakistan for its support and position on issues of Azeri territorial integrity prior to and during the patriotic war against Armenia, describing it as “a true demonstration of brotherhood.”

“The government, Parliament, and people of Pakistan morally and politically supported us during the patriotic war, condemning Armenian aggression and supporting our just position to restore territorial integrity,” Ambassador Farhadov told the media on the first anniversary of Azerbaijan’s “44-day Patriotic War” against Armenia.

Azerbaijan, he said, being a member of the Kashmir Contact Group of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), fully supported the settlement of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Armenia kept under occupation almost 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory, committing notorious war crimes and crimes against humanity.

National Assembly of Pakistan also hosted an event to commemorate the first anniversary of the Patriotic War Victory of Azerbaijan in Parliament House.

The event was attended by Member of Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Mahir Abbaszade, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Ambassador of Turkey to Pakistan, Convener of Pakistan-Azerbaijan PFG, and members Pak-Azerbaijan PFG.
