Pakistan, Uzbekistan to strengthen bilateral trade

Islamabad, 27 December 2022 (TDI): Today, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, Khodjaev Jamshid Abdukhakimovich, called on the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, in Islamabad.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister of Pakistan reiterated his commitment to further strengthen the already excellent ties between the two brotherly nations.

He gave this commitment in light of his recent encounters with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan, on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Samarkand in September and the 6th CICA Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan in October 2022.

According to the Prime Minister, Pakistan offers rail and road access to Central Asia. He hoped that regional connectivity projects would usher in a new era of peace and prosperity for the two countries as well as the region.

The delegation informed the Prime Minister of their discussions with Pakistan’s economic officials, during which it was decided to strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties.

The dignitary also gave the Prime Minister an update on the various business-related discussions that had taken place between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

While the Prime Minister recognized that business community discussions that result in B2B contacts would improve bilateral trade and investment.

The Uzbek delegation thanked Shahbaz Sharif and reaffirmed that the two countries relationship was deepening and that the frequency of their interactions was on a positive trajectory.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that the friendship between Pakistan and Uzbekistan is deepening over time, and the delegation’s visit, led by the deputy prime minister of Uzbekistan, is evidence of this development.
