Congresswoman Omar is a Somali-born Muslim-American immigrant who represents Minnesota in the US House of Representatives.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues.
Moreover, they also highlighted opportunities for strengthening bilateral ties between the US and Pakistan.
Discussion on Floods:
During the meeting, Minister Hina highlighted that many states are threatened by climatic change. This has also caused floods in Pakistan to make destruction at a huge level.

Minister Hina emphasized that the U.S. Congress can play an important role in helping vulnerable countries deal with the climate crisis.
Additionally, she updated the Congresswoman on the widespread devastation caused by the climate-induced floods in Pakistan. Owing to heavy monsoon rains this year, many areas of Pakistan are plunged into the water.
Due to this, more than 1000 people have lost their lives while infrastructural damages caused by it keep growing.

The US government is one of those countries that helped Pakistan with humanitarian aid to fight the impacts caused by the floods. Correspondingly, Minister Khar extended her gratitude to the US government for providing timely assistance to Pakistan.
Moreover, she emphasized that more aid is required to help Pakistan build back a better, greener, and in a resilient manner.
She said that despite being one of the lowest emitters of greenhouse gases, Pakistan is facing the major brunt of climate change.
Therefore, she emphasized that the international community must help the country share the burden of the climate crisis. She highlighted that climate change is a global challenge requiring a global response and collective action.
In response, Congresswoman Omar expressed her sympathies for the losses caused due to the floods.
She assured her support for the provision of more assistance for the country to cope with the devastating floods.
In conclusion, both sides affirmed to work together in the future against climate-induced impacts.
