New York (TDI): Pakistan has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, warning that rising tensions and renewed hostilities are exposing the fragility of the regional peace framework and increasing the risk of further escalation.
Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said the surge in violence serves as a clear reminder of how quickly fragile ceasefires can collapse, leading to severe humanitarian and security consequences.
He stressed that “the cycle of violence and instability must end for the good of regional and international peace, security and prosperity,” adding that continued conflict only deepens divisions and reduces the chances of a diplomatic breakthrough.
The ambassador noted that the breakdown of dialogue and the outbreak of hostilities have also complicated efforts to address the Iran nuclear issue, further distancing the concerned parties and disrupting the International Atomic Energy Agency’s verification work.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, he said that all outstanding disputes, including the Iran nuclear matter, should be resolved through peaceful means, diplomatic engagement, and sustained negotiations, in line with the rights and responsibilities of all stakeholders.
Ambassador Asim further said that Pakistan, along with regional partners, has been actively engaged in diplomatic outreach to reduce tensions, support ceasefire efforts, and bring relevant parties back to the negotiating table.
He added that Islamabad has maintained continuous contact with key countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Türkiye, Qatar, and China in an effort to promote dialogue and regional stability.
He said Pakistan’s efforts are focused on halting hostilities, protecting lives, and preserving space for diplomacy, reflecting what he described as the country’s consistent commitment to peaceful and principled engagement.
