Pakistan-Turkiye Ministers commits to enhance bilateral trade

Istanbul, 5 December 2023 (TDI): At the 39th Ministerial Session of the COMCEC in Istanbul, Federal Minister for Commerce and Industries Pakistan, Dr. Gohar Ejaz had an interactive meeting with Republic of Turkiye’s Minister of Trade Professor Dr. Omer Bolat aimed at enhancing bilateral ties on Monday.

The high-level ministers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral trade and investment during the conversation. The officials further discussed pursuing liberalization with deepening collaboration between the fraternal states of Pakistan and Turkiye.

Pakistan Commerce Minister Gohar Ejaz enlightened Omer Bolat about the newly formed Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC)’s function in attracting investment. He also informed the Turkish Minister regarding the areas of prime concern for investment.

In a fruitful conversation, the Minister of Trade of Turkiye pledged his full support to strengthen bilateral trade relations and realize the full potential of the two brotherly Islamic countries.

At the COMCEC Ministerial session margins, Commerce Minister Gohar Ejaz had the honor of attending an insightful breakfast gathering hosted by Dr. Omer Bolat, Türkiye’s Trade Minister.

In the course of the discussion, the participants deliberated about the critical necessity to finalize the Trade Preferential System among the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (TPS-OIC) agreement’s implementation by creating a clear and attainable timetable.

It was agreed that this crucial move would allow the member states to fully realize the agreement’s potential for transformation and revitalize intra-OIC trade, driving the respective economies towards an upward trajectory.

During the 39th COMCEC Ministerial conference in Turkiye, Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Gohar Ejaz also met with representatives of significant companies. The talks addressed how to increase bilateral investment and leverage the enormous business potential between Pakistan and Turkiye.

On the sidelines, Gohar Ejaz held the first meeting with the President of the Anadolu Group, Atilla Demir. Both sides had a productive discussion related to the prospects of partnership between the two countries.

In a second sideline meeting with Ibrahim Sinan, Chief Executive Officer of Zorlu Group, Gohar Ejaz focused on conferring about the sectors of common interests, particularly future bilateral investment.

Commerce Minister Pakistan met Cengiz Ozdemir, Chairperson of the Pak-Turkey Business Council, and exchanged views on potential areas of partnership and joint ventures in his third sideline meeting.

The 39th Session of the COMCEC is taking place in Istanbul from 2 to 5 December 2023. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) is the Islamic world’s primary international economic and commercial cooperation body.
