Pakistan, Switzerland host sustainable agriculture conference

Islamabad, 26 August 2021 (TDI): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan, in collaboration with the Swiss Embassy of Switzerland in Pakistan, hosted an event for a dialogue on sustainable agriculture in Pakistan.

Along with the Swiss Ambassador to Pakistan and Federal Minister of National Food Security Research, Syd Fakhar Imam, around 100 stakeholders of science and technology from both countries attended the event. Representatives from the Higher Education Commission, National Science and Technology Park, National University of Science and Technology, Special Technology Zones Authority, Geneva Science Diplomacy Anticipator, Swiss Research Institute of Organic Agriculture were also present.

The event was an effort to bring together local and international partners, scientists, and entrepreneurs to better the agricultural system in Pakistan in line with sustainable development models prescribed by UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Climate change directly impinges on Pakistan’s agricultural production. With water scarcity and extreme weather patterns, new technology of sustainable agriculture for food security in Pakistan is essential which calls for cooperation on national and international levels.
