Islamabad, 12 December 2022 (TDI): Pakistan condemns the cross-border firing from Afghan Border Forces where 6 Pakistani nationals were killed and scores were injured, the Foreign Office said on Sunday.
According to Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) – Pakistan’s military media wing, the Afghan Security Forces opened unprovoked and indiscriminate heavy weapons fire, including artillery mortar, onto the civilian population in Chaman, Balochistan.
The result of the firing caused the death of 6 civilians with another 17 individuals injured, ISPR. According to ISPR, Pakistani border troops have given a befitting measured response, avoiding targeting civilians in the area.

Moreover, Pakistan has also approached authorities in Kabul to highlight the severity of the situation and demanded strict action to avoid any such recurrence in the future, ISPR stated.
Foreign Office Statement
Pakistan highly condemns the incident of Afghan Border Forces resorting to unprovoked and indiscriminate firing on the civilian population in Chaman, Foreign Office.

Moreover, the statement said, such unfortunate incidents are not in keeping with the brotherly ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Pakistan has informed Afghan authorities to take strict possible action against those responsible and should avoid the recurrence of such incidents, Foreign Office noted.
Furthermore, the statement notified that it remains the responsibility of both sides to protect civilians along the border.
Concerned authorities of both Pakistan and Afghanistan should remain in contact to ensure that there is no further escalation, Foreign Office.
Prime Minister’s Statement
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the unprovoked shelling and firing by Afghan Border Forces on civilians along the Chaman border.
He said that unprovoked shelling and firing by Afghan Border Forces at Chaman resulting in civilian causalities and injuries of more than dozen is highly unfortunate and deserves the strongest condemnation.
Besides that, he stressed the Afghan Interim government should ensure that such an incident does not repeat in the future.
