Karachi (TDI): Pakistan and South Korea are exploring ways to expand cooperation in the chemical sector, with a focus on boosting bilateral trade, encouraging joint ventures, and moving towards an economic partnership agreement.
A delegation of the Pakistan Chemicals & Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA), headed by Chairman Salim Valimuhammad, met with Korean Consul General Yi Sung Ho and Director General of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Hwang Sungwoon, in Karachi.
The discussions centred on strengthening trade ties and identifying opportunities for industrial collaboration between the two countries.
The PCDMA delegation included Vice Chairman Shariq Feroz, Convener of the Diplomatic Committee Nasiruddin Fateh Kukda, and senior member Parvez Valimuhammad.

During the meeting, Salim Valimuhammad assured the Korean side of PCDMA’s full support, particularly in chemical chapters 28 to 32, to help increase trade volumes. He encouraged Korean firms to explore joint ventures and provide technical expertise in Pakistan’s general and specialty chemicals sectors, noting the strong potential for mutual benefit.
The delegation also emphasized the need to deepen cooperation in the dyestuffs industry, an area seen as promising for future growth. Both sides exchanged brief introductions of their respective organisations and held initial discussions on possible areas of collaboration.

Senior businessman from the dyestuffs sector, Pervez Vali, underscored the importance of free trade agreements, economic partnership frameworks, joint ventures and technical cooperation in strengthening long-term commercial relations.
Korean officials also invited the PCDMA delegation to participate in a textile exhibition scheduled to be held in South Korea in 2026. The Pakistani side welcomed the proposal, saying such engagement would further reinforce bilateral trade and business links.
