Pakistan, South Korea to Co-Host UN Peacekeeping Preparatory Meeting

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan, in partnership with South Korea, will co-host the Third United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Preparatory Meeting from April 15 to 16, 2025.

The event will be held at the Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS), located within the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad, which has become a symbol of Pakistan’s dedication to advancing peacekeeping expertise and innovation.

Held under the theme “Towards a Safer and More Effective Peacekeeping: Use of Technology and Integrated Approach,” this two-day meeting aims to gather a distinguished lineup of global policymakers, diplomats, military strategists, peacekeeping veterans, and United Nations officials to discuss and explore the evolving challenges, solutions, and future pathways for UN peacekeeping operations worldwide.

The Islamabad meeting serves as a crucial preparatory step ahead of the United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial, which will take place in Berlin, Germany, from May 13–14, 2025.

The Berlin conference is the UN’s flagship biennial event that brings together Foreign Ministers, Defense Ministers, and senior military officials from around the world, with the aim of strengthening political and operational commitments to UN peacekeeping missions, which remain one of the world’s most vital tools for maintaining international peace and security.

The Islamabad Preparatory Meeting will feature a comprehensive agenda designed to address both longstanding and emerging issues facing UN peacekeeping operations in today’s rapidly changing global security environment.

The event will be attended by representatives from the Government of Pakistan, the United Nations, and participating member states.

Key UN officials expected to join include Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, and Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support.

Over the two days, panel sessions will cover multiple sub-themes, including evolving peacekeeping challenges, strategies to improve peacekeeper security, the role of technology in modern missions, and approaches to building sustainable peace through integrated planning and cooperation.

The meeting will also explore the significance of fostering regional and cross-regional partnerships, improving performance standards for peacekeeping personnel, and adopting integrated approaches that ensure sustainable and long-lasting peace in conflict-affected areas.
