Pakistan and Singapore promote Economic Collaboration

Singapore, 17 August 2022 (TDI): The High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore Syed Hasan Javed had a meeting with Mr. Bernard Lee, Senior Partner, Audit Alliance LLP to discuss the scope of collaboration between the Chartered Accounts institutes of Pakistan and Singapore.

The meeting took place through a virtual platform on Wednesday. Both representatives talked about promoting CA collaboration between the two states.

Pakistan has various renowned institutions that offer CA, i.e. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP). Singapore and Pakistan are looking forward to cooperating in this domain for better economic ties.

Pakistan and Singapore relations

Pakistan enjoys brotherly relations with the countries of Southeast Asia. Similarly, Pakistan also enjoys good relations with Singapore. Pakistan and Singapore have close ties and are considered good friends.

Singapore is an important trade partner of Pakistan. The trade volume between the two countries is around US$2.5 billion. Singapore exports goods worth US$2.124 billion compared to US$228 million in imports from Pakistan.

Singapore is also one of the largest investors in Pakistan with almost US$2 billion investment. Pakistani companies having branches in Singapore include Pakistan International Airlines and HBL Pakistan. Pakistan was also instrumental in developing the Singaporean maritime industry.

Recently, the foreign ministers of the two countries met on the sidelines of the 29th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

They reviewed the state of Pakistan-Singapore bilateral relations. They agreed to enhance bilateral dialogue and cooperation and exchanged views on global and regional issues of mutual interest.

The foreign minister of Singapore emphasized the importance given by Pakistan to its relations with Singapore. He also expressed a keen desire to enhance the country’s collaboration with ASEAN member states.
