Vienna, 15 September 2022 (TDI): The Embassy of Pakistan in Vienna, in partnership with the Turkish Embassy, sponsored an event to raise awareness and mobilize local communities and philanthropic organizations in Austria to provide humanitarian aid to flood victims in Pakistan.

In addition to the Ambassadors of Pakistan and Turkiye in Vienna, the event was attended by heads of Turkish NGOs, philanthropic organizations, and members of the Turkish and Pakistani communities in Austria.

Ambassador Brigitta Blaha; President of the Austria-Pakistan Society, and Andreas Zinggl, Caritas; Programme Manager for Pakistan, also attended the ceremony.

In his presentation, Pakistan’s Ambassador provided a comprehensive description of the situation on the ground as well as the Government of Pakistan’s relief and rescue efforts.

He emphasized the necessity of the international community’s continuing help as the country transitions from rescue and relief to the next phase of reconstruction and rehabilitation.

He urged the audience to involve their respective communities and Austrian media in highlighting the amount of devastation inflicted by this year’s floods and to increase their efforts to assist flood victims in Pakistan.

He also complimented the Turkish Ambassador and the Turkish community in Austria for standing behind their Pakistani brothers, demonstrating the two countries’ strong fraternal relations.

In his remarks, Ozan Ceyhun, Ambassador of Turkiye in Vienna, promised the Turkish community in Vienna of its full support.

He remarked that Turkiye stands firmly by Pakistan in this hour of need. Turkiye has provided full cooperation and all humanitarian help from the start and has been at the forefront of relief and rescue activities.

Ambassador Brigitta Blaha reported on the work of the Austria-Pakistan Society, while Andreas Zinggl addressed delegates on Caritas’ aid in the country.

Caritas, in collaboration with its local partners in Pakistan, is implementing a large assistance programme that includes the distribution of basic commodities as well as the rehabilitation of homes in badly impacted areas.

The event was part of the Pakistani Embassy’s outreach initiative to promote awareness and generate as much aid as possible for flood victims.
