Islamabad (TDI): Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, former President of Philippines and current Member of the House of Representatives, met with Barrister Aqeel Malik, Minister of State for Law and Justice, to discuss avenues for bilateral cooperation.
Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Philippines to Pakistan, also attended the meeting.
The discussions focused on recent legislative reforms in Pakistan, including initiatives to remove capital punishment for certain offences. Both sides highlighted the importance of progressive legal frameworks, human rights, and collaboration in law and governance.
At the conclusion of the meeting, souvenirs were exchanged as a gesture of goodwill and to mark the spirit of friendship between Pakistan and the Philippines.
The discussions underscored the mutual interest of both countries in strengthening institutional ties, particularly in areas where governance reforms can enhance transparency and rule of law.
