Basra, 8 February 2022 (TDI): Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, the Chief of the Naval Staff of Pakistan is on an official visit to Iraq.

During his visit, the Naval Chief held meetings with the Commander Iraqi Navy, Admiral Ahmed Jaasim Maarij and Iraqi Defence Minister, Jumma Inad Sadoon Khattab, respectively.

The Naval Chief was received by Commander Iraqi Navy upon arrival at the Naval Headquarters Basra. The agenda of the meeting was to deliberate upon issues pertaining to mutual interest.

During the meeting with Admiral Ahmed Jaasim Maarij, professional matters of mutual interest, regional maritime security and bilateral naval collaboration were discussed.

 

Pakistan Navy Chief

Pakistan Navy Chief on his part underscored the efforts of the Pakistan Navy to ensure maritime security in the region. These efforts include Regional Maritime Security Patrols as well as active participation in Combined Maritime Forces (CMF).

Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi also visited Naval Base Um Qasir as well as the Iraqi Naval Academy. Whilst there, a briefing was given to the Naval Chief.

Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi also called on the Iraqi Defence Minister, Jumma Inad Sadoon Khattab. During the meeting, the two officials touched upon professional matters of mutual interest including bilateral defence collaboration.

The Pakistan Navy Chief emphasised the significance of improving interactions between the armed forces of both countries via training exchange programmes and exercises.

Jumma Inad Sadoon Khattab acknowledged the importance of robust bilateral military collaboration in multifarious domains. In addition, he also accentuated improving cooperation in expanded military domains.

It is believed that the visit of the Pakistan Navy Chief will further boost as well as augment defence relations between the two countries in general, and navies in particular.
